The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has issued advice on tailgating that may help drivers who wish to avoid an unnecessary van insurance claim.
According to the IAM, motorists should resist the temptation to respond or retaliate to tailgaters, but should instead keep their cool and, ultimately, remove themselves from the dangers of the situation.
The solution of some people, braking suddenly and sharply, is the response most likely to result in an accident and jeopardise the cost-effectiveness of a van insurance policy.
A spokesperson from the organisation had the following advice for van insurance policyholders and the drivers of commercial vehicles, "Find the earliest opportunity to change lanes in safety and allow the tailgater to get past you and become somebody else's problem."
