A German commercial vehicle insurance customer was at the centre of one of Germany's most embarrassing ever prison escapes this week after a Turkish national serving time for drugs offences escaped from prison in a box.
The 37-year-old had been helping pack dirty laundry when he managed to hide himself in one of the largest boxes before escaping as soon as the van driver made his first stop, embarrassing both the courier company, one of Germany's largest commercial vehicle insurance customers, and prison staff.
A police spokesperson said that he hoped the escapee would be caught soon, but warned it may prove tricky identifying him. "We believe he may already have set up a new identity, so we have issued a picture in the hope someone will help us to identify him," he said.
Police have also released photographs on the man who escaped in the van online, in the hope that a member of the public will recognise him.
It is not known whether the incident will have any future impact on the price of the courier company's commercial van insurance policy.
