Some things will always be more important than finding competitive van insurance; one of these things is undoubtedly your health. As a result of this, Guildford Borough Council has decided that all snack vans operating within the borough should now offer at least one healthy meal option.
We are all familiar with the kebabs, burgers, chips and pies typical to this kind of roadside outlet, but now it seems we must grow accustomed to the kind of wholemeal, low fat and vitamin-packed options that we would usually associate with a health food eatery.
However, a spokesperson from one roadside outlet says that he doesn't think that "worthy" food is likely to prove a hit with his clientele, most of whom are also van insurance customers. "Our customers are mainly scaffolders, builders and lorry drivers and they are not going to want this new food," he said.
Adding, "The sandwiches and jacket potatoes are more suited to a sandwich bar. The rules seems to be going over the top with political correctness. Some of the things the council is suggesting I serve would cause a bit of a problem - I just can't see people wanting them."
However, if iVan, the UK van insurance leaders have learnt one thing, it is that not all van drivers are the same, and just as with motor insurance quotes, having a wide variety of options makes for a happier customer.
A spokesperson from the council's environmental health office comments, "It remains for the trader to design his menu around the principles of healthier catering, such as grilling rather than frying.
"The aim is to give consumers a wider choice and move away from the sole provision of high calories, high fat fast foods."
