A major crackdown on rural crime in Norfolk has led to police there stopping more than 30 motorists. A number of motorists received warnings for driving unsafe vehicles, while one van driver had his vehicle seized for driving without van insurance.
A Norfolk police spokesperson commented on the operation that led to the van insurance sting, "Today's operation was largely targeted at vehicles involved in fuel and metal theft and those driving illegally or in unroadworthy vehicles," he said.Adding, "We will continue with these operations in conjunction with our partner agencies because they serve a number of purposes - not least targeting criminals and keeping our roads safe."The majority of motorists pulled over were perfectly law abiding - they were reassured by our actions and accepted the reason why they were being stopped."
The crackdown formed part of Operation Radar, while the van insurance seizure was made possible by the assistance of the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency.
In addition to the van seizure, a police notice was served to a commercial vehicle driver who was found to be using a faulty tachograph.
