Women account for an increasing number of van insurance customers, according to Swinton Insurance.
The motor vehicle insurer reports that since 2007 there has been a 23% rise in the number of women seeking van insurance quotes.
After a survey of 1,000 women van drivers, the insurer found that 81% drive their vans on a self-employed basis, while 19 percent drive on behalf of an employer.
Swinton's Commercial Manager indicated that there is little to differentiate the female van insurance customer from her more typical, male counterpart. "The female van insurance market has seen a dramatic increase over the past few years as more women take their businesses to the roads. Our research has shown that female van drivers are highly responsible on the roads and very courteous to other motorists," he said.
The same poll also found that the majority of commercial vehicles driven by women are white (78%), only one of the thousand women polled owned up to driving a pink van.
