Having delivery van insurance is important in the to protect the vehicle and third parties in the event of an accident, but it doesn't protect the driver from assault or illegal activity..
One delivery driver discovered this when three men approached him whilst he was behind the wheel and threatened him with a chainsaw.
The incident took place on Heaton Park Road West in Manchester.
The driver of the van was sitting in his vehicle in a Sainsbury's car park when the three men approached him armed with the power tool.
The three aggressors threatened the van driver demanding that he buy them cigarettes. They also forced him to open his van, which they then ransacked.
The perpetrators, after searching the van, ran off towards Middleton Road taking nothing from the vehicle with them.
A police detective involved with the case was reportedly confident that the offenders would eventually be apprehended as the incident was caught on CCTV cameras.
The driver luckily escaped without any injuries and no damage was done to his vehicle, so he will be able to keep any no-claims bonus he may have on his delivery van insurance and should still be able to find a cheap van insurance quote upon renewal.
