Businesses which neglect to ensure any driver van insurance for their fleets risk incurring financial penalties as of 20 June, as part of the new insurance tracking system, Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE).
Graeme Trudgill, head of corporate affairs with the British Insurance Brokers Association said that CIE marks the most significant advance in motor insurance law since the 1940s.
He commented, "The enforcement of the new law is a bold move to tackle uninsured driving and will make the roads safer. The TV campaign is a welcome insurance industry initiative that will help raise awareness of the new law."
However, although the system will help track and penalise individuals who fail to secure or renew premiums, it fails to address the practice of commercial vehicle fleet owners buying single driver cover when in fact any driver van insurance is required.
Despite this failure to address issues concerning any driver van insurance, most believe that CIE will make a meaningful contribution to improving road safety.
An underwriter with one of the UK"s leading motor insurance companies comments, "Uninsured drivers have proven themselves three times more likely to be convicted of driving without due care and attention, and 10 times more likely to have a drink driving conviction. We think CIE will help increase the level of accountability and responsibility on Britain's roads, which is good news for all road users."
CIE's impending introduction is expected to result in a surge of demand for online cheap van insurance quotes.
