Builders van insurance holder's parked vehicle damaged

One self-employed builder, who was visiting a friend in Worthing, West Sussex, is likely to have been glad that he had builders van insurance.

The 22-year-old's Astra van was heavily damaged when a coach driver, who is reported to have been looking for a free parking space after having received a parking ticket, turned into the narrow road and crashed into nine stationary vehicles.

The van driver stated, "I heard the awful noise and looked out to see the coach, swerving down the road bashing everything in its path. It looked like he [the coach driver] didn't even have time to brake. One car spun in front and he was pushing that along into all the other cars.

"It all seemed to happen in slow motion. I saw it [the coach] hit my van. Lots of the cars he hit were new. I reckon he's done £100,000 damage [in total], easy."

The coach driver was taken to Worthing Hospital after being treated for shock by paramedics.

"He was in a mess. He was just sitting there in shock. It's a nightmare. I need my van for work," the builder said.

Depending upon how badly damaged the man's work van is, he may choose to claim on his Astra van insurance, but this will unfortunately mean that he may lose his no claims bonus.

Furthermore, if his cover does not include vehicle replacement he may find that he is without a van until he purchases a new one or his is repaired.

If this is the case, when he renews his builders van insurance he may wish to make sure that courtesy vehicle use is included in his new policy.
