Fleet van insurance holders need to be more vigilant than ever about ensuring vehicle security following revelations that more than half (56%) of UK drivers have fallen foul of vehicle-related crime.
Furthermore, a worrying proportion of drivers are neglecting to activate their vehicle alarm systems (60%), risking becoming the victims of theft and any consequent rise in the cost of fleet van insurance.
Marks and Spencer Insurance, which commissioned the study, warned drivers that they are risking potentially punishing thefts and premiums rises. A spokesperson from M&S commented, "During the summer months, many drivers unwind windows and leave roofs open - it's important to make sure the vehicle is secure when unattended."
It has also been observed over recent months that the drive to compare fleet van insurance in the hope of finding the cheapest deal may be leading some consumers to miss out on vital cover.
A spokesperson from commercial vehicle cover specialist iVan comments, "Although it's great to find a cheap quote, consumers should always ask themselves whether it is a quote for the policy that is best for them. Taking the longer view may end up saving van drivers hundreds of pounds.
