Male drivers of commercial vehicles could be risking their cheap van insurance if they get too distracted by scanty summer clothing, according to insurance experts.
A recent survey found that nearly 30% of men admit to having been dangerously distracted during summer by women wearing low-cut tops and short skirts.
Behavioural psychologist Donna Dawson told The Telegraph, "Research shows that men are far more easily distracted behind the wheel than women.
"Men are more visually orientated and so distractions such as an attractive woman walking down the street can quickly take their attention away from driving and the job in hand.
However, for many this is resulting in more accidents and, potentially, the loss of cheap van insurance. For example, official figures for 2009 show that men make 16.4% more motor insurance claims during summer than at any other time of the year.
A spokesperson with cheap van insurance specialist iVan comments, "Although it will always be difficult for men overcome to some of the hazards of their evolutionary programming, keeping their eyes on the road will not only help both their safety and that of other road users, it can also ensure that their commercial vehicle cover remains as cheap as possible; a roving eye can result in an unintentionally roving van."
