The typical white van man: Mrs Mop, perhaps? Well, that may well be the case if a recent poll by a commercial van insurance company is anything to go by.
After surveying around 2,000 commercial van insurance customers, Swinton found that van drivers spend an average of 42 minutes cleaning their vehicle each week. Car drivers, it seems, are a fetid and rancorous species and average only a paltry weekly average of 21 minutes cleaning - precisely half that of van drivers.
Professional pride was the most oft cited reason for van drivers' cleanliness, but it is also clear that white van man believes in pleasing his wife: 2% said that they keep their van clean to please their ‘her indoors'. A spokesperson from the motor insurance company behind the poll said that the survey results could help bust some myths.
"We have all seen the words 'clean me' carved out of dirt on the back of a van or lorry, so it's nice to know that van drivers are making an effort to dispel the image of the typical 'dirty van man'," he said.
"We would advise all drivers to make sure that their windows are kept impeccably clean at all times to ensure maximum visibility," he added.
He also said that cleanliness could "help to reduce accidents and keep van insurance premiums to a minimum."
