Man killed by flying debris

A man has been killed in a van accident after a piece of metal smashed into his van window.

The 59-year-old was driving in Castleford, Yorkshire, on February 5 when the metal smashed through the driver's side window and hit him on the head.

Following the van crash, his white Vauxhall Vivaro hit a road sign near the TK Maxx warehouse in California Drive, Whitwood.

Police are investigating to see if a passing lorry driver ran over the metal and catapulted it into the air, causing it to smash through the van driver's window.

The deceased's partner from Thorpe Audlin, near Pontefract said:

"He was one of the best drivers going. It's basically just being in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Police are continuing their investigations into the van accident.
