Those who compare van insurance to find the cheapest quote but also text and drive are at risk of losing the benefits of all their hard work, according to a new survey by retail giant Halfords.
According to the survey, as many as 29% of motorists admit to text messaging while behind the wheel – a rise on the numbers reported in a similar survey last year.
And it seems that road safety experts will have to respond to the changing nature of the practice. Whereas it was once only texting and answering phones behind the wheel that posed a threat, an increasing number of drivers admit to using the internet to enter social networking sites while driving.
iVan, the compare van insurance specialist, comments, "Drivers who engage in illegal phone use pose a very real road safety threat.
"If fears for both their own personal safety and that of other road users isn't enough to stop them, then it is useful to know that , should they be caught in the act, they may find that no matter how much they compare van insurance, they will find it impossible to purchase affordable cover."
