Van insurance customers have been advised that smoking in their vans could have a serious affect on resale value.
And, with many would-be new van buyers depending on the sale of their current commercial vehicle in order to finance the purchase of a new one, those who smoke in their vehicles may have to settled for simply renewing the van insurance on their existing vans.
Tim Naylor, the manager of British Car Auctions (BCA) says that the damage caused by smoking in a vehicle will "put buyers off", even those who are smokers.
Mr Naylor says that the only way drivers can "eliminate the risk of discolouring and leaving scorch marks in the ashtray or on upholstery" is to go cold turkey when they are in their vans.
There are other van-related drawbacks to smoking. For example, if a person causes an accident as a result of smoking while driving, it may lead increases in the cost of his or her van insurance.
