Rude van driver myth lives on

It seems that old stereotypes die hard after a van insurance company survey revealed that motorists consider the drivers of commercial vehicles to be the rudest on the UK's roads.

Coming in ahead of young drivers, who were considered the next rudest, van insurance customers were accused of being the most typical perpetrators of a number of rude and dangerous driving habits, including tailgating, cutting in front of other drivers and pulling out of junctions aggressively.

Other motorists also blasted van drivers for alleged use of inappropriate and aggressive hand signals. Worryingly, many of the survey's 1,500 respondents also said that van drivers were likely to cause an accident and therefore jeopardise their chances of receiving cheap van insurance.

One White Van Man commented on the survey by saying, "Of course, there are rude van drivers, just as there are rude car drivers.

"I know there's still some prejudice against van drivers but I, along with many of my tradesman mates all say the same thing: why drive like a numpty when you're business name is on the side of the van? It doesn't make sense.

"I've got a near-perfect driving record and like to think of myself as a gentleman driver. It disappoints me that this attitude still prevails," he added.
