A survey by a van insurance company has found, perhaps unsurprisingly, that van drivers are better able to change their vehicle's tyre than any other road user.
The van insurance company, which offers quotes to fleets and both commercial and private clients, reported that an impressive 97% of van drivers know how to change a tyre compared to 76% of car drivers.
But the superior tyre changing knowledge of van drivers does not stop there: while only 20% of car drivers are aware of the correct tyre pressure for their vehicles, 81% of van drivers are in the know.
The survey should be good news for van drivers hopeful of a cheap insurance quote; incorrect tyre pressure and poor tyre tread are factors in a significant number of road accidents, so the fact that van drivers are educated about the risks shows they may be less likely to become involved in tyre-related accidents.
A spokesperson with the van insurance company that commissioned the study commented, "All drivers should have at least basic knowledge of their vehicles and should not rely on other people to carry out maintenance work, such as filling up tyres and topping up oil, to avoid unnecessary claims which can lead to an increase in insurance premiums."
In separate news, it has been revealed that van drivers are also know more about basic engine maintenance than the drivers of other vehicles.
