Many commercial vehicle drivers could be invalidating their van insurance cover by failing to disclose vehicle modifications, according to a leading provider of motor insurance quotes.
The company warned that many insurers may fail to pay out on claims in the event that it is discovered a vehicle owner has failed to disclose a modification, whether it is cosmetic or mechanical.
A spokesperson commented, "Van drivers who are planning to modify their vehicles should always inform their van insurance provider to keep their policy valid. Modifications can sometimes have an impact on insurance premiums, but it is important to remember that the most important extra that any van driver can buy is adequate van insurance cover."
However, disclosing a modification does not mean that the cost of a policy will rise automatically. In some cases, the cost of policy may remain the same, while in other cases it may actually make for cheaper van insurance.
A spokesperson from iVan explains, "Not all modifications have to be bad news for the cost of van cover. For example, installing added security measures or removing speed-enhancing aspects of a vehicle can actually reduce the cost of your premium."
