Breakdown cover advised for winter

Insurance specialists have called for van drivers to ensure that they have sufficient van insurance breakdown cover this winter or risk being left out in the cold.

Steve Sweeney, head of MoneySupermarkets motor policy division, offered advice that will have relevance to all van insurance holders this winter. "Comprehensive motor breakdown cover is a must for motorists to avoid being stranded in the cold. I advise Brits to make regular checks to their vehicles before driving to avoid being a victim of a breakdown," he said.

Adding, "Taking regular precautionary measures such as checking the oil level, anti-freeze, hazard lights, and tyres for tread depth and pressure, and stowing a spare tyre in the boot of your car are a good idea."

And with the worst cold snap in decades hitting the UK this week, the advice could not be more relevant to van insurance customers than it is currently, especially if they are in the process of looking for a cheap quote this winter.
