Van drivers the UK's politest

It may come as something of a shock to learn that just a few weeks after the typical van insurance customer was voted the worst driver on the road it has now been discovered that he is the most courteous.

An online survey of drivers by a leading van insurance company has revealed that 43 percent of van drivers give way to other motorists, compared to 36 percent of car drivers.

Not only were the drivers of commercial vehicles revealed to be the most deferential, they are also the most grateful; 31 percent say that they frequently indicate their gratitude to considerate motorists, again comparing favourably to car drivers, of whom only 28 percent say thanks.

A spokesperson with the van insurance company behind the survey comments, "It's good to see that van drivers are breaking the stereotype of being the most aggressive motorists on the road."

"Common courtesy costs nothing and it's vital that all drivers remember that their actions behind the wheel can have a real impact on other road users," added the motor insurance expert.
