Cover advice from fleet specialist

A specialist van insurance quote provider has warned the drivers of commercial vehicles that they risk invalidating their cover every time they leave a vehicle unattended with the engine running

A spokesperson with the van insurance quote company commented, "An astonishingly high number of delivery drivers are invalidating their van insurance every single day. Delivery drivers often leave their keys in the ignition to save time starting up the engine and to prevent the battery from going flat. However, it's vital that drivers remember to remove keys from the ignition and lock their van every time they stop to make a delivery.

The spokesperson went on to say that, with many commercial vehicles containing satellite navigations systems, mobile telephones and expensive tools, a van's contents, presented another problem.

Leaving a vehicle unattended with the engine still running, he said, was likely to result in an insurance provider failing to pay out in the event of a theft. Furthermore, a theft in such circumstances may also make it difficult for the driver to find a cheap van insurance quote in the future.
