A survey by the Association of British Insurers has shed light on the lengths some will go to in order to secure really cheap van insurance cover.
According to the survey, as many as half of all drivers might be prepared to lie if it meant that it would increase their chances of receiving really cheap van insurance.
However, the ABI warned that lying to achieve the cheapest quote is a "false economy" that, ultimately, could come with severe consequences.
This is because lying about things such as age, place of residence, motoring convictions, occupation and no claims bonus can result in policies being invalidated and, potentially, a criminal conviction.
Nick Starling from the ABI, comments, "Of course everyone wants to get the best motor insurance deal, but being less than truthful is not the way to do it. Not being honest with your insurer could lead not only to you driving illegally, but to financially crippling bills if involved in an accident, harder to obtain and more expensive future insurance, and difficulties in accessing other financial products."
Instead of lying, says the ABI, drivers of commercial vehicles should shop around for really cheap van insurance, trying comparison websites and brokers in order to find the cheapest cover.
