Van insurance customers have been advised of the importance of checking to make sure their policies protect them while driving abroad.
The advice follows details of a survey which showed that 20% fail to check they have sufficient cover abroad before taking their vans from the UK to continental Europe.
A spokesperson from the motor cover company commented, "It is vital to check your van insurance policy before driving abroad. We would urge van drivers to speak to their insurance provider to see if they need to upgrade their policy. It is really important that van drivers are aware that fully comprehensive cover at home will not necessarily mean the same on the continent."
For example, just last month one tradesmen took his van to France to work on a kitchen coversion in the holiday home of a client. During this trip he caused an accident which resulted in significant material damage to another vehicle. However, his van insurance company refused to pay out for the accident, saying that his policy did not cover him while driving abroad.
