In a bid to save money amid rising motoring taxes and vehicle insurance, many van drivers compare van insurance policies to ensure that they are getting the best deal. However, it has been reported that many van drivers may struggle to continue driving in Greater London next year due to a new crackdown from the London Emission Zone (LEZ).
From January 3rd 2012 new LEZ rules will mean that drivers of vans which do not comply with emission requirements may be issued fines of up to £500 a day if they choose to drive in the capital.
Van drivers with affected vehicles can avoid receiving a fine by either having the vehicle's exhaust system modified, for which costs usually range from £1,500 to £2,200, or by buying a different van which fulfils the new regulations.
Concerns have been raised for small businesses, such as contractors and butchers, who need to use vans but may not be able to afford the extra costs.
Van drivers who are struggling with the increasing costs of fuel and business van insurance may be able to save money by choosing to compare van insurance policies on a website specifically designed to do so.
