An any driver van insurance policy is absolutely essential for any company which has more than one driver. Although this form of vehicle cover can sometimes be very expensive, a business may be able to obtain cheap van insurance at renewal if their employees build up a history of safe, no-claims driving.
However, making sure staff members adhere to the rules of the road, and demonstrate safe behaviour when behind the wheel, can be a challenge. Kerry Foods Direct to Store (KFDTS), a refrigerated food supplier, is using the GreenRoad system to achieve safe driver behaviour after a successful pilot scheme.
The company trialled GreenRoad's Driver Improvement Loop at one of its sites in Shepton Mallet, Somerset. This technology aims to give employees real-time feedback as they drive, through a display which is similar to a traffic light. If a staff member drives aggressively, the system will show a red light. However, if a van is being driven in a safe manner, the device's green LED will illuminate.
Moreover, the system also publishes the collected data via a special website – which can help fleet operators detect the staff members who may need further training.
After the pilot scheme, KFDST reported a reduction in its fuel costs by nine percent as well as its drivers suffering no traffic accidents. In addition, the cost of repairs was also reduced.
KFDST now intends to utilise GreenRoad in all 330 of its vehicles. Hopefully, this nationwide program will have a similar effect to the pilot scheme and keep their employees safe on the roads. With any luck, this technology may also help the fleet operators obtain cheaper any driver van insurance at renewal.
