Postman Pat Vs Mr T - battle of the van insurance quote candidates

Here at iVan we thought it might be fun to imagine what kind of van insurance quote the owners of famous fictional vans from film and TV would receive.

Of course though, with these quotes being offered to some unusually dangerous characters, all of who earn their crust by living on the edge with danger lurking behind every corner, these will be no ordinary quotes.

Van insurance candidate number 1 - The A-Team's GMC Van
Well, one problem with insuring the A-Team's GMC is that the members of the gang are all, technically, criminals. Although they are a group of mercenaries acting for the general good, they are also constantly fleeing police who are trying to catch them for a "crime they didn't commit."

The fact that they have been seen breaking the speed limit in every episode of all five seasons doesn't exactly help either.

And, although here at iVan we provide tool cover, some of the A-Team's tools may pose peculiar policy problems. Pistols, M-60 machine guns and Micro Uzis are not the kinds of tools we are accustomed to insuring.

We do think, however, that we would be able to insure Hannibal's disguises, Mr T's jewellery and the mini money printing press that the gang used in one episode.

Verdict: This is a no, I'm afraid. Not because we wouldn't want to insure the guys, but because we know that, being on the run, they're not going to want to blow their cover by seeking a quote. Anyone who is involved in an accident with these vigilantes is going to have to contact the MIB.

Okay, so the Ecto-1, a converted 1959 Cadillac ambulance, is not, to specification, a van. It is though used as a van, so it certainly falls within our area of expertise.

Ghostbusters, led by Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd, are three parapsychologists who have branched into the field of ghost extermination and, unlike the A-Team, operate completely lawfully.

They have some pretty unusual tools too, such as ghost-zapping glorified vacuum cleaners, otherwise known as Proton Packs. However, despite their weirdness, we're pretty confident we'd be able to cover these tools.

Verdict: Yes, these guys and their Ecto-1 shouldn't be a problem. And while, we're offering you a quote, there's something horrible and green growing in my fridge; do you think you could come round and sort it out?

Van insurance candidate number 3 - Postman Pat's "Bright Red Van"
Oh, life in the village of Greendale, a friendly idyll somewhere in the vales of Yorkshire.

The village has grown in recent years. It now has a railway, an immigrant population and helicopter pad, but, as far as I know, despite the village still having only one policeman, there isn't any crime and there has never been a serious traffic accident - so far so good.

Also, Pat is a model citizen and has never been done for drink driving in his life. He may be a bit clumsy - he has a reputation for going "whoahhh" as he struggles to regain then loses his balance before he falls bottomwards into a pond - but, overall, he seems like a pretty foolproof kind of guy.

Verdict: He may travel a lot of miles, but Pat is as safe as houses. Tell you what, Pat, we'll even throw in magpie insurance in case one steals your keys again.

Van insurance candidate number 4 - The Trotter's Reliant Regal van
Oh dear, what can we say to offer "Del Boy" and Rodney encouragement over their likelihood of receiving a competitive van insurance quote.

Being a black market business Trotters Independent Traders is not really our usual cup of tea and, like the A-Team, I'd be surprised if Rodney and Derek sought to obtain insurance at all.

Verdict: Yes, we should be able to work something out boys; it's about time you got some good quality cover. That van is going to need to pass its MOT first though.
